Dresses are an essential part of my Summer wardrobe as I find them easier to wear when the temperature rises. The disadvantage with dresses is that sometimes you feel like you can't wear them many times because they will get recognised. My best friend and I , actually used to keep a diary of what we wore . Seperates can be mixed and matched to make various outfits but a dress , seemingly doesn't offer that flexibility. I find, however, that investing in a few types of dresses , and using accessories to change it up works great , the key being not choosing frocks that are too over the top , that way you also won't get bored of them.
I have narrowed it down to five types of dresses which are the core of my wardrobe and cover my needs for all occasions, including holiday wardrobe of course!
1.The White Dress
Like the black dress its white counterpart is a vital component of any Summer wardrobe. I like pretty cotton numbers that will not date and by investing in a new one each year you will have a nice little collection that always look great for any occasion. The great thing is that you can add colour with accessories although personally I tend to stick to natural tones or even all white for the rest of my outfit.
Plaid, or gingham as it is otherwise referred to is one of my favourite prints. It is fun and fresh and looks great on a crisp cotton dress. This is more of a daytime option but you could wear it for a relaxed evening by the sea or a garden party.
I generally favour shorter lengths, but lately I am finding them a bit restrictive and I am pleased to say I have discovered the joys of the midi dress.Maxi dresses are not really my cup of tea although I do like them on other people. I feel like they swamp me and I do like a bit of leg to show. The midi dress is very flattering in the sense that the focus are on feminine ankles and lovely shoes.
4.The Stripe Dress
There is not much to say about stripes as they are the perfect summer print, whether you find yourself on a tropical destination or even for days in the city, the classy clean effect of a stripe is undeniable. Navy and white are my choice but you can experiment with different combinations.
5.The Trend Dress
The previous dresses will see you through many a Summers as they have timeless appeal. However, as a fashion forward woman , a trend focused dress is also necessary every season. You may not get as much wear out of it as the others as you will probably not want to wear it for more than one season, but you feel excited about it and that is just as important! This year invest in off the shoulder, ruffles and embroidery.
Make it as much fun as you like although my advice is not to invest too much in the trend dress for obvious reasons!
